I've loved interior design since I was a little girl, when I would rearrange the furniture to
surprise my mother. I still feel the same thrill when I create a new pattern for a table, or find
an unexpected way to use color on a mirror or wallpiece. I want to create an inlaid quality like
Byzantine mosaics or the fantastic woodwork of the Arts and Crafts movement, flawlessly precise,
with crisp, clean edges. I like the mystery and surprise of simple paper in this context.
I want the viewer to wonder: Is it stone, metal, glass? I prefer design that is lush, not busy,
and never sentimental. Bella Bella patterns are about vines, stones, and stylized foliage; about
iron trelliswork, mosaics, and Italian ceramics; about French fabrics, crazy Celtic spirals, and Matisse-like fronds.
